Calling Elliot Ness

We need Elliot right now. During the reign of mob rule, crime families, Murder, Inc. Elliot brought down Al Capone in the most mundane of ways…tax evasion. And it seems as though our favorite hustler, er President, may be facing the same fate. His believers will find DJT tantalizingly mischievous, but the prosecutors in New York will find him guilty of tax fraud and evasion. Oh what a tangled web.

This of course makes the rat trapped that much more dangerous. His ex lawyer and fixer has told us what DJT will do to delegitimize the election and we should take Cohen deadly serious. Even us average Americans can see that president for life is a better deal than life in prison.

The Republicans are betting on DJT. A problem gambler only wants to stay in action, win or lose. At some point losing will become a tragic misstep which must be mitigated by acquiring more funds. The goal is to keep the mule in play so the game continues. So any talk of Republicans acting with integrity or acting in the interests of the country or democracy are simply misguided.

And his devoted believers? Well they think that all the privileges DJT enjoys will somehow trickle down to them. They, like the Republicans in office, are totally invested in the illusion of the DJT supremacy. When the smoke clears, many will be sacrificed and none will be spared.

And if you like your revenge served cold, you should hope that somehow justice will prevail.

Stay strong. Plan your vote.

Billy Bar The Door

So now Bill Barr compares self isolation to slavery, the worst affront to individual liberty…same thing. Does anyone think Bill Barr is conscious in any sense of the word. My theory is that Bill is senile. I doubt that Barr and Trump will appear in the same room together. That elephant is just way too big.

What does a senile elephant do to entertain itself. Excessive mud baths? Extra peanuts? If an elephant never forgets, now what.

Talking. Lots of talking. Incessant jabbering about nothing. Except instead of ignoring them, many believers are hanging on every word. And when it makes absolutely no sense, they depend on Sean Hannity to explain it. It’s as if the elephants are speaking in tongues, that somehow the more bizarre the sound, the closer to divine it must be.

Tone deaf. Well they say hearing is the first thing to go. Parlor tricks, ouji boards, sleight of hand, snake oils…everything is in play. By the time we wake from this nightmare, it will be too late.

Plenty of time to sleep in the off season. The game is on. No excuses. There can be no bench warmers. If everybody plays, we all win.

Wonder Rookie

In an otherwise lackluster MLB season, Seattle has found an uncut gem. Kyle Lewis is fun to watch. The shortened season has been unkind to Seattle, as they were miserable out of the gate. But suddenly and without warning, they’re playing some pretty good ball and even the pitching has found new life.

We as Mariner fans will cling to any signs of life. We are relentless armchair managers, always certain we would have called a better play. But it doesn’t matter if you love the sport.

It is in fact a perfect metaphor for the state of affairs rocking the nation. Even a slow starter can find new life and renewed hope. And so we Americans will persevere as we always have done and take pride in knowing there is no better place on earth, warts and all.

There’s no crying in baseball.
