Pretzel Logic

An RV bomb went off in downtown Nashville. It happened on Christmas Day. It happened while parked in front of an ATT building. It happened early hours of the morning. What could it mean. What was the bomber trying to say.

One thing cable news has going for it is that there is no lack of hours to speculate. There is an endless wave of law enforcement experts, human psychology experts, terrorism experts being trotted out to offer various explanations. Problem is, there is no explanation from a dead guy. Whatever he wanted to tell us died with him in that RV.

So as long as we’re all speculating with no real facts or evidence, I have a theory.

We may discover that he suffered from depression exacerbated by the isolation of pandemic distancing. He may have become unemployed with no realistic path to return to work again given his age. He may have lived alone, either by choice or unfortunate circumstance. He had a house, so he wasn’t living in his RV.

During the holidays, those of us suffering depression are at greater risk of suicidal thoughts or action.

The audio warning of an impending explosion indicates that he did not want others harmed. But, he wanted to go out with great aplomb and in a fashion which would guarantee his demise. No maiming or chance for revival.

He possibly sedated himself after initiating the audio and the countdown and simply laid down. Maybe. Suicide is painful. And in this case, it was no cry for help but a final, lasting impression of a life mired in futility.
